Resumen

Las abejas proveen a la humanidad con productos que, debido a sus propiedades, son empleados para preservar y mejorar la salud humana y animal, por ello, entre otras cosas, son consideradas como el ser vivo más importante del planeta. Esto trae consigo que sea imprescindible su cuidado y protección. En este sentido, se están realizando estudios sobre el uso de la microbiota intestinal de abejas para mejorar su salud, sin embargo, en Cuba existen muy pocas investigaciones y un conocimiento básico sobre el tema. De ahí, que el objetivo de este trabajo sea describir las características de la microbiota presente en las abejas melíferas. Diversos autores sugieren que la microbiota intestinal de la abeja melífera está dominada por nueve grupos bacterianos con funciones únicas. Se ha identificado la acción antimicrobiana, de estas bacterias intestinales, frente a patógenos humanos y de las abejas, así como su efecto en la nutrición, el comportamiento y el aprendizaje del insecto. Existe poco conocimiento sobre la comunidad fúngica presente en estos organismos, pero se sabe que en las abejas obreras está presente especies de Saccharomyces.
